DuckDuckGo is a new search engine I have been using for the past 7 months and absolutely love it! DuckDuckGo captures the essence of search and delivers great results with some interesting features.
Here are a few of my favorite features:
Zero-Click info: Easy to access information right on the search page.
Disambiguation: Narrow your search query instead of typing in multi-word queries.
Official Site: This is useful when you are looking for the official site of a company, person, band, product, etc. and you are not quite sure about the official site.
!Bang: !imdb House takes you to the IMDB page of House directly. The entire list of sites that work with ! is here.
The things you don’t notice which make DDG even better:
Search privacy: This is a big one. DuckDuckGo doesn’t store IP address or cookies. In addition you can use https.
Auto Scrolling: Use your keyboard to go through all the results. No need to click on Next to view more results. If you use search a lot, this is really helpful.
Aggressively block sites: There are many sites with a wide spectrum of spam content. DuckDuckGo is extremely aggressive in blocking such sites.
Number of results: Most search engines show the “number of results” — a misnomer more than anything else. No one wants to wade through thousands of pages, and thankfully DuckDuckGo does not show the number of results.
Give DuckDuckGo a try for a couple of weeks, you probably won’t go back to your current search engine.
